Virago

I'm looking at a Yamaha Virago as a donor bike but want spoked wheels and a mono shock.  I can't find a model year of a bike that has both.  I've seen cafe's this set up so can anyone tell me how they do this?   Steve

The 750 and 920 Virago were mono shock for only the 1981 and 1982 model years but they had the cast aluminim rims. The rear was 16" and front 19" which works well for a cruiser but not so much for a cafe. The 1984 model had spoked rims the same size which you can restring to either 17" or 18" . I personally prefer 18" as I think the larger diameter better suits the bike while maintaining reasonable performance. The spoked rims are hard to come by but they are out there and they are 100% interchangeable. I believe we have a couple sets at the shop so give us a call if you proceed with the Virago. Rob
